U16: Our U16 team got their Division 1 league campaign off to a winning start with a 3-10 to 1-11 victory over Ballinamore-Sean O'Heslins in Ballinamore on Wednesday last. The home side looked the better and more balanced team during the opening quarter as they marched into a six point lead but a couple of switches and 2 cracking goals from Cathal Keegan and Keith Beirne paid dividens. As we went into the dressing room at half time trailing by just 2 points. Our sole rep on the team full back Ronan Gallagher did us proud on the day while Daniel Beck and Shane Canning were also on the panel. Next up the Rossies. And finally, a big thanks to Therese Foy for capturing it all on camera.

Down Memory Lane: This weeks trip 'Down Memory Lane' takes us back to August 1992 and to a Division 2 match in the Park in which Mohill defeated visitors Glenfarne 0-12 to 1-03. Despite some very unguarded shooting on the day, Our lineout was as follows: Cathal Shivnan, Gerry Kilrane, Frank McGowan, Stephen "Rocky" Clyne, John McGlynn, Gerry Costello, Mark Conboy, Seamus Duignan, Fergal McWeeney, Michael Lynch, Paschal McKeon, David Manning, Jason Brady, John Baxter, John Dugdale.

Minor League Final: It was a case of third time lucky for our Minor team St Manchans as they captured the Division 1 League title with a 2-09 to 1-06 victory over Ballinamore-Sean O'Heslins on Sunday last in Carrick, having stumbled at the final hurdle in 2008 and again last year. The sides were deadlocked at the interval 1-4 apiece but backed by the prize our boys outscored there opponents in the 2nd half to run out deserving winners having earlier beaten the same opposition, St Marys, Drumkeerin, Carrigallen and Glencar/Manor to reach the final. Well done also to the management team of Mickey Quinn, Sean Kennedy and Paul McGuinness. Some of the lads had little time to rest on their laurels namely Ryan Bohan, Nathan Conboy, Alan McLoughlin, Caillin Canning, Eanna Madden and Cian McGuinness who all travelled afterwards to Dromod to play with our third team who continued their unbeaten run with a win over the Bors. Congrats to Nathan who celebrated his 17th birthday 2 days before the game (Nothing unlucky about Friday 13th for him). At this point we would like to thank Julie Early of the Green Rooster for the food after the Final.

Congrats: to Mohill CC on winning the League and Championship double

Fundraising: It is hoped to run a Race Night shortly to raise funds for Feile Sponsorship would be greatly appreciated.

Condolences: Our condolences go to former star forward and club officer Willy McHugh on the death of his Mother last week. Our condolences also go to the Bannon Family on the death of Bridgie Bannon, grandmother of our most commited club member and senior defender Paul Bannon and also to the Devlin and McCawley families on their bereavements last week.

Thanks: Our underage mentors & players would like to thank the club for food after recent success.

Club Notes 20th - 26th May

Down Memory Lane: This weeks trip 'Down Memory Lane' takes us back all off 47 years to 1964 to a league game played in the Grange in Cloone in which Gortletteragh defeated Mohill on a 3-08 to 1-02 scoreline. The Mohill lineout was as follows: Brendan McGowan, Paddy Haughey, Michael Gallagher, Brendan Gallagher, Jim Sheridan, Peter Gordon, Tom Mulvey, Christy McCaffrey, Sean Bannon, Michael Carey, Sylvester Kivlehan, Padraig Guckian, Tommy McCaffrey. Marksmen were T.Mulvey 1-0, S.Bannon 0-1, P.Guckian 0-1. Centre half back on the team Jim Sheridan some years later captained Finn Harps to FAI Cup soccer glory and following the "Ban" lined out midfield for Leitrim Seniors in the early 70's alongside our own Des Keegan. Sadly a number of this team which incidentally featured a 14 year old Tommy McCaffrey are no longer with us such as Michael Gallagher, Brendan Gallagher, Christy McCaffrey and Padraig Guckian.

Division 5: Our thirds team unbeaten run in Division 5 continues unabated following their 2-12 to 0-10 victory over next-door neighbours over Gortletteragh in wind swept Cornageeeha on Sunday week last on a day in which the extremely blustery wind blowing across the pitch made shooting hazardous at times. The management team of Padraig Cassells, John Baxter and Mickey Quinn decided to use our Minor brigade sparingly ahead of the League Final with the four lads Nathan Conboy, Cian McGuinness, Alan McLoughlin and Eanna Madden getting half a piece. At the end of the day two cracking first half goals from ace marksman Padraig Tighe proved to be the major difference between the two sides in an extremely sporting encounter which I dont think any cards were issued. It is great to see Padraig back in the fold this season having missed a lot of last year due to illness. Great also to witness 21 players togged out at this level and young lads such as Cian McGuinness, Nathan Conboy, and County Minor Eanna Madden playing so well in their first year of Adult football.

Cycle to Sligo: Our big cycle to Sligo for the Sligo-Leitrim Game is next Sunday. A bit like old times really. Hopefully the weather is good.

Club Notes 13th - 19th May

Down Memory Lane: This weeks trip 'Down Memory Lane' takes us back to the centenary year of the GAA: 1984 and to the U16 Towns Championship Final of that year in which Mohill led by County Minor and team captain George Dugdale defeated Glencar/Manorhamilton on a 1-07 to 0-03 scoreline. This was an historic day as this was our 4th title in a row. The first team to achieve this feat. Apart from Man of the Match Dugdale, our best performers on the day were Gerry Costello, John Reynolds, Gerry Foy, Kieran Butler, Padraig Cassells, George Dugdale, Aidan McKeon, Eddie McGlynn, Cormac McManus, Cormac Rowley, Mattie Gaffey, Declan McDonald. Subs Used: John Canning. Glencar/Manor: Brendan Gilmartin, Kieran Foc, Michael Rooney, Eamon Devaney, John O'Callaghan, Pat O'Callaghan, Raphel McKeon, Aidan Rooney, John Anthony Feehily, Donol Connolly, Francis Kelly, Diarmuid Sweeney, Michael McGuinness. Ten years later George Dugldale and Aidan Rooney were Team mates on Leitrim's famous Connacht Championship Winning Team while Diarmuid Sweeney is our present County-Board Secretary. Our best wishes go to a member of that 84 team, Cormac Rowley who is ill at the moment.

U14 Final: Our U14 Team captured the Division 1 (15 a side) League Title in emphatic style courtesy of a resounding 7-12 to 2-05 victory over Sean  O'Heslins in sunny Carrick on Sunday evening last. What a difference a year makes as the Ballinamore boys gave us a similar drubbing at the same venue 12 months ago. This was a great team effort with everyone playing their part. The following subs all got a run: Alan Keenan, Dylan Gaffey, David Mitchell, Oisin Reynolds. Other subs on duty were Mikolaj Sempka, Gavin Gordon, Ryan Murphy, Jonathan Reynolds, Kalon Harkin, Philip Stewart. Well Done to the management team of Matt Gaffey, Gerry Cosgrove, Paschal McKeon. Marksmen were: K.Beirne 2-04, J.Stenson 2-1, J Cosgrove 2-1, R.McKeon 1-1, R.Gordon 0-03, A.Tuthill 0-01, Ethan Harkin 0-01. A delighted Keith Beirne lifted the cup on behalf of his team mates and club after the final whistle.

Minor League: Following earlier victories over St Marys, Sean O'Heslins, Dumkeerin and Carrigallen, St Manchans march into the Division 1 Final for the third time in four seasons with a hard earned 2-10 to 0-12 over a lively Glencar/Manor side in sunny but breezy Eslin on the May Bank Holiday Monday. Hopefully third time lucky. In truth our fate was sealed before the throw in but this was still a good result for our boys. The teams were deadlocked at the inteval 1-04 to 0-07 with a superb from County U16 panelist Darragh Gordon proving to be the half's major score. The introduction of 'Super Sub' Niall Beirne during the second half had a major impact as Niall hit 1-03 after coming on including a superb individual goal just seconds after his arrival on the field.

Club Notes 6th - 12th May

Tom Reynolds R.I.P: Mohill GAA Club lost another great stalwart when Tom Reynolds sadly passed away on Tuesday 19th of April. One of our presidents at the time of his passing, Tom served the club well in a number of capacities over the years as Chairman, Trainer of our Ladies Team, Selector, Underage Trainer, Development Officer, Kit Man, Park Caretaker. Tom fulfilled all these roles thoroughly. Affectionately known by all and Sundry as "The Smithy" because his father Frank was a blacksmith and because Reynolds is the common surname in South Leitrim. Tom played for his native Gorvagh in the parish of Mohill as well as also playing Senior football for Ballinamore during the 1940's and 1950's before like many young men at the time,he emigrated to England. It was while working on the buses there that he met the love of his life, Donegal girl Rose to whom he got married to. Tom and Rose and their young family returned to Ireland for good in the 1970's and settled in Mohill. Tom was elected as chairman of the club during the 80's, a position that he was returned to during the 90's for a while. The "Smithy" was a selector with our Senior and Junior team for a while during the 80's and 90's.On one famous occasion in the Bee Park in 1983, Tom made a comeback to the playing field where due to lack of number lined out with our Junior team in a league game along with fellow selector and former Gorvagh team mate T.P Ellis. Some years later Tom started a Girls team in Mohill and before long with himself at the helm, They won underage titles at all grades. Indeed many of those girls went on to win may titles. In more recent times, Tom fulfilled the roles of Development Officer, Park Caretaker and Kit man and a few years back he was elected as Club President, An Honour he most richly deserved. Tom's sons Tom Jnr and Mark both played underage and Junior football with the club before they emigrated. We fondly remember "The Smithy", a born gentleman and a great character. To his loving wife Rose, sons Tom and Mark and his daughter Sarah and all other family members we extend our deepest sympathy.

Condolences: Our condolences go to the family and friends of Andrea McHugh, formally of  Main St who passed away on April 17th, aged 50 years following a long illness. Andrea's brother Willy was a star forward with the club in his younger days while her late father Pat also played for Mohill.

Minor League: They say a good start is half the battle and this certainly rang through in Eslin on Good Friday last as St Manachans Minors fought off a spirited Drumkeerin comeback to eventually gain the Division 1 League spoils on a 4-10 to 2-08. Our lads got off to a great start courtesy of a 1st minute goal by Darragh Gordon and a commanding looking 3-08 to 0-03 lead at the interval. However the losers refused to throw in the towel and outscored us during the second period. However our 1st half cushion stood to us and in a game in which we were always in front we ran out deserving winners. However but from a Darren Booth save, a missed Drumkeerin penalty and a cracking goal from our pocket rocket wing back Ryan Bohan it could have been a different outcome. At this point we wish midfielder Cian McGuinness a speedy recovery from an injury he picked up early in the game Our marksmen were as follows: Alan McLoughlin 0-05 (free), S. Quinn 1-2, N. Beirne 1-1, R. Reynolds 0-02 (2 45's), D. Gordon 1-0, R. Bohan 1-0. Well done to the managment team of Mickey Quinn, Sean Kennedy and Paul McGuinness.

Happy Birthday: Congrats to former player and selector John Dugdale who celebrated his 50th Birthday on Good Friday. Welcome to the club, John.

Club Notes 22nd - 28th April

Hurling: Well done to young club player Ronan Gordon who had the honour of captaining Gortletteragh U-14 Hurlers to the County Feile title recently. Other club players who were also part of the winning team were as follows: Jamie Cosgrove, Jamie Stenson, Keith Beirne, Micheál Reynolds. The team will now travel to Galway to represent Leitrim in the All-Ireland Feile Finals. It is turning out to be quite a year for the above players as they will also participate in the Football Feile with Mohill  U-14's.

County Teams: Our County Senior team will remain in Division 4 of the League for another year following their recent campaign. Three club players featured during this campaign namely Ronan Gallagher who was an ever-present at full back, Daniel Beck who played most games at wing-back and Shane Canning who was brought on during the late stages of the League. Three young clubmen also featured during the County Minors recent Connacht Minor League campaign: Eanna Madden was an ever-present at corner back, Shane Quinn who captained the team featured in attack and at midfield while Alan McLoughlin also saw some action.

Condolences: Our condolences go to the Baxter family on recent death of Mrs Elisabeth Gilligan and also to the Rowley family on their recent bereavement.

Club Draw: Our Development draw which was due to take place this Easter Sunday night will now be held at a later date.

Tara Visit: Tara GAA Club from London will visit Mohill over the coming Easter Holiday weekend. Some of us of a certain vintage will remember our trips to London to play the Tara's during the 1970's and 1980's. Indeed the club has a long association with the London-based club as over the years a number of Mohill natives have played with them such as Packie McGarty, Willie McGarty RIP, Eddie McGarty RIP, Frankie Keegan, Michael Gallagher and currently Paul McDermott

Senior League: Our seniors remain unbeaten following a hard-earned victory over Carrigallen on Saturday last.

Club Notes 15th - 21st April

Down Memory Lane: This week's trip Down Memory Lane takes us back to 1976 and to a Junior League game in the park in which Mohill defeated Aughawillan on a 2-11 to 1-04 scoreline. Our lineout was as follows: Michael Boyle, Brendan Gallagher RIP, Charlie Boyle, JJ McKeon, Anthony Canning, Luke Earley, Des Keegan, Brian Gordon, John Murphy, Sean Bannon, Gerry Beirne, Francey Conboy, Michael McGuinness RIP. Subs Used: Sean Mitchell, Michael Duignan.

U-14: Following their big win over Glencar/Manor the previous week, our U14 footballers, under the management team of Matt Gaffey, Gerry Cosgrove, Paschal McKeon scored a good 3-14 to 0-11 victory over a somewhat smaller but very skillful Fenagh St Caillin's in Fenagh on Friday last, having held a slender enough 0-06 to 0-03 lead at half time. An interesting feature of the contest was that while a number of the losers scores came from frees our entire tally played upon. Our lineout was as follows. Cal Rawlinson, Alan Tuthill, Jack McGarry, Michael Reynolds, Kevin Flynn, Darren Keegan, Eoghan Keegan, Jamie Stenson, Keith Beirne, Ethan Harkin, Ronan Gordon, Fiachra McGuinness, Jamie Cosgrove, Ronan McKeon, James McNabola. Subs Used: Tadhg Mulligan, Alan Keenan, Oisin Reynolds. Marksmen were Jamie Cosgrove 2-02, Keith Berine 1-04, Darren Keegan 0-03, Jamie Stenson 0-02, Ronan Gordon 0-01, Fiachra McGuinness 0-01, Ethan Harkin 0-01
